Welcome to ICN BS Faculty and Research's website!
Since ICN Business School was created in 1905, our school has developed an internationally-oriented Faculty deeply involved in the national and international scientific community. Historically, ICN BS has "made the difference", being associated with the Université de Lorraine, with which strong scientific links exist, and being part of ARTEM's venture.
Thanks to this university's roots and its corporate partnerships, ICN BS Faculty is organized in seven academic and professional departments:
• Business Environment
• Finance, Audit, Accounting & Control
• Human Resources Management and Organizational Behavior
• Marketing
• Strategy & Entrepreneurship
• Supply Chain Management & Information Systems
• Languages and Foreign Cultures
The Faculty's research activities are mainly led within the CEREFIGE (www.univ-nancy2.fr/CEREFIGE), a joint laboratory between University Nancy 2, Paul Verlaine Metz and ICN BS. These activities evolve from three original areas of expertise, developed over the years:
• Management and Behavioral Competencies
• Governance and Regulation
• Innovation, Territories and Entrepreneurship Dynamics
Three words emphasize ICN BS Faculty's growth phase:
• Development: ICN Faculty now constitutes 67 professors and 19 affiliate professors against 51 permanent professors three years ago. Our objective is to reach the number of 75 permanent professors and 25 affiliate professors by 2016.
• Internationalization: today, 43.1% of the permanent Faculty come from abroad, 50% if we take into account our French professors who passed their Phd abroad.
• Renewal and increase of scientific production: since 2011, ICN BS is pursuing a voluntarist policy of research development based on original methods of Research, on synergies with CEREFIGE and the foundation of International Research Chairs.
I wish you an excellent visit within a creative and dynamic Faculty.

Nancy, in the heart of Europe
As the historic capital of the Dukes of Lorraine, Nancy has a rich history. Stanislas Leczcynski (Stanislas I) established his court in Nancy and made it one of the most splendid cities in Europe. Today it is a dynamic cultural and commercial center. The city’s administrative, industrial and high technology sectors have spearheaded growth within the entire Lorraine region.
With more than 55 000 students and 3 500 professors and researchers, the University of Lorraine attracts students and researchers from around the world. European and international cooperation programs form an integral part of the life and academic programs.
Situated in the center of town, ICN is the Business School of the city of Nancy and the University of Lorraine. It is a member of the prestigious French “Chapter of Schools of Management of the Conference of the Grandes Ecoles” and a member of ECRICOME (a group of Business Schools which employ the same rigorous entrance examination standards). In 2007, ICN became an EQUIS accredited school. ICN is consistently ranked among the top Business Schools in France.
Nancy is situated: 100 km from Luxembourg, 100 km from Germany, 150 km from Strasbourg, 300 km from Brussels.

Historic City Center
A LARGE GROUP OF 18thC BUILDINGS ON UNESCO'S WORLD HERITAGE LIST
Duke Stanislas redeveloped the area linking the old and new towns of Nancy, building his three famous squares (places in French) on the esplanade that had replaced part of the city’s ramparts. From north to south they are the Place de la Carrière, Place Royale (today’s Place Stanislas) and Place d'Alliance, the last two being raised in honour of King Louis XV, the son-in-law of Duke Stanislas, former King of Poland.
UNESCO drew up its first World Heritage List thirty years ago. It now includes 370 sites and monuments all over the world. More than 20 sites in France have been awarded this honour. The magnificent 18thC group of buildings in Nancy has been on the list since December 1983 when it was chosen as being of “truly outstanding interest and representing universal values".
NANCY OLD TOWN
This refers to the town which expanded rapidly in the Middle Ages around the Duke’s castle. In the 16thC the most modern defensive walls and bastions of the period were built to protect it. Nothing remains of them today except for a small part of the walls discovered during the renovation of the Fine Arts Museum. The extensive restoration work carried out over the last 15 years makes it one of the high points of Nancy’s heritage.
THE NEW TOWN
Founded by Duke Charles III in 1588, with its streets all at right angles the New Town has a totally different layout to the Old. It has its own market square and a famous parish church: the Primatial (today’s Cathedral). It was in a position to rival the Old Town as it even had its own independent fortifications. The New Town is in the process of being restored today.

Financial housing assistance and taxes
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Any foreign student who has a European nationality or a French long-stay visa has the right to apply for government housing assistance. In order to qualify, you need to meet certain requirements.
This type of financial assistance is coordinated and distributed by the CAF (Caisse d’Allocations Familiales). You should apply promptly upon arrival. This type of financial assistance takes at least one month to obtain after receiving your residence permit. You will thus have to pay for at least the entire first month’s rent by yourself. It is important to apply for financial housing assistance as soon as possible after arrival in Nancy (the student association Globe and Co will help you with this procedure).
Keep in mind that if you should leave your apartment on the 15th of a given month, the !nancial housing assistance will not apply for that month’s rent. The people at the information stand at the Pôle Universitaire Européen de Nancy (European Studies Center) can help answer your questions about financial housing assistance and help you fill out the necessary forms. Globe and Co can also assist you with this.
HOUSING TAX
French fiscal law declares that any person residing in France as of January 1st is responsible for housing tax (rates estimated to be approximately a month and half of rent). Payment of this tax is required by the French government a few months after your departure.
Housing
Posted on : Tuesday, 30 November 1999 Location : Vivre à ICN Nancy-Metz
ICN BUSINESS SCHOOL DOES NOT OWN ANY RESIDENCE HALLS, BUT ON THE FOLLOWING PAGES ARE BRIEF DESCRIPTIONS OF RESIDENCES THAT ARE CHOSEN BY MANY OF ICN’S INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS. IT IS NOT AN EXHAUSTIVE LIST AND WE STRONGLY ADVISE YOU TO DO SOME ONLINE RESEARCH BEFORE MAKING YOUR CHOICE OF ACCOMMODATION.
There are 4 main housing categories :
- A furnished studio in a private student residence hall (Totem or Pythagore or Bergamote or Espérance),
- A furnished studio in a private residence (Les Estudines, Appart’City Cap Affaires),
- A furnished room in a state-owned university residence (CROUS),
- Private housing (apartment, roommates).
Both the International Office and the student association Globe and Co are available to advise and help you in your accommodation search.
-
Important note
FOR ANY KIND OF HOUSING
You should plan your arrival for a weekday (Monday to Friday) and before 6pm. You should advise the rental office in advance of your intended arrival, as well as Globe and Co association if you need a pick up service at Nancy train station.
Keep in mind that residences ask for the payment of a guarantee corresponding to a security deposit which will be reimbursed to you at the end of the contract if there is no damage to the property. Certain residences also ask for a non-reimbursable agency fee for administrative purposes. You should also take out a comprehensive “multi risk” property and contents insurance policy (in case of theft, !re, accident, etc.) with a French company (insurance company, bank or MGEL, student’s insurance agency). If, during your stay, you would like to have a bank account with the French Bank “BNP”, this insurance policy will be offered to you free of charge. Again, Globe and Co will help you with this. Renting a studio in France entitles you to a !nancial grant, called “Aide Personnalisée au Logement” (see the section on “Financial Assistance” section).
In order to get the keys to your studio, you will need four things : a completed application form, a check for the security deposit, proof of insurance and your appointment for the studio inventory.
Studio inventory and damage inspection
An inventory and damage inspection of the studio will be carried out upon your arrival and again when you leave. You should thus plan your arrival for a weekday (Monday to Friday) and before 6pm. You should advise the rental of!ce in advance of your intended departure. The studio inventory and damage inspections are required. Students who do not respect this rule risk losing their security deposits.
The leasing contracts are drawn up on the basis of a traditional leasing arrangement, which student occupants can cancel ONLY upon 3 months notice at the Totem and Pythagore Residence. For example, if you wish to leave your apartment/studio on June 15th, you must send a letter indicating your intention to cancel your leasing contract dated no later than March 15th. The lease cancellation at Les Estudines, Residhome & Cap Affaires is 1-month written notice and 15 days for the Crous residences. The International Relations Of!ce can give you sample of the resiliation letter.
Health Insurance
Posted on : Tuesday, 30 November 1999 Location : Vivre à ICN Nancy-Metz
Every student in France, whatever their nationality, must have health and accident insurance.
You can obtain this at the CPAM (Caisse Primaire d’Assurance Maladie or Sécurité Sociale, at 9 Boulevard Joffre in Nancy, Tel: 3646 (inside of France) or +33 811 70 3646 (outside of France). You will need to show proof of health insurance coverage to obtain your identity card, residence permit and other documents.
Enrolment in the French student insurance system will allow you to be reimbursed for up to 70% of medical costs. We recommend that you also purchase additional insurance called a student “mutuelle” which will provide more coverage. This insurance can easily be obtained in Nancy. The two health insurance providers are MGEL (www.mgel.fr) and LMDE (www.lmde.com).
-
If you come from a european community country
Health insurance can be obtained in your home country before coming to France. You will need to get your European Health card from the Insurance Agency in your home country. It will exempt you from having to register for French health insurance while at the same time providing identical coverage.
If your insurance at home is from a private company, you should obtain a certi!cate of insurance from them. The CPAM in France will then decide if the coverage exempts you from having to register for French health insurance. If it does not, you will have to get French insurance, which costs approximately 200€ per year.
-
If you come from a non-european community country
You will have to obtain French student insurance (approximately 200€). You can obtain insurance here at ICN when you register for your student card. Students from the Province of Quebec, Canada should obtain the SE401-Q106 form from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Quebec before coming to France. This form will exempt you from having to pay for French student insurance.
-
If you are over 28 years of age
You will not be able to obtain French student insurance. However, we recommend that you contact the CPAM. They may be able to provide a type of medical coverage called Couverture Médicale Universelle (CMU).
We recommend that you purchase an additional insurance called a student « mutuelle » which will provide more coverage.
