Stephane Lhuillery is Professor of Strategy and Innovation at the ICN Business School since September 2011.
He received the degree of Master of Science in Industrial Economics (1990) from University Paris Nord. He was a student at the Ecole Normale Superieure de Cachan (Class 1988). He also received the Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Paris Nord (1996) and holds an aggregation (French advanced teaching qualification) in Economics and Management (1991). He also passed his habilitation thesis at the University Paris Dauphine in 2011.
His first work experience was as an economist at Oséo-Anvar where he was involved in assessing the impact of Oséo-ANVAR funding on innovative firms. Stephane Lhuillery then joined University Paris Nord in 1998 as an associate professor. In 2005, he joined Dominique Foray's Chaire of Economics and Management of Innovation (CEMI) at the EPFL (Lausanne).
He teaches mainly in his main areas of expertise: economics of innovation, econometrics of innovation and industrial strategy in France and in Switzerland. More precisely, Professor Lhuillery main area of interest is in why and how firms manage their scientific and technological environment. He is interested in knowledge absorption, appropriation and disclosure strategies as well as in the determinants of R&D and non-R&D links implemented by innovative firms. He is also interested in the impact of such strategic links or networking on firm performances. The role of institutions including IPR and S&T policies are of particular interest to him.
He has published articles in Economics of Innovation and New Technologies, Industrial and Corporate Change, Industry and Innovation, Journal of Evolutionary Economics, or Research Policy. He served as an ad hoc reviewer also for some other leading journals in his field such as Cambridge Journal of Economics, Corporate Governance: An International Review, Economic Letters, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, International Journal of Technology Management, Journal of Common Market Studies, Journal of Small Business Management, and Review of Industrial Organization.
He is member of different professional associations such as the Academy of Management TIM (Technology & Innovation Management) Division and the Schumpeter Society.
