The University of Nancy

The University is a large, regional French university that is divided into 3 establishments: The University of Nancy 1, The University of Nancy 2, and the INPL (National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine).






The University of Nancy 1 (University Henri Poincare) is made up of the colleges of :

- Medicine
- Pharmacy
- Dentistry
- Sports
- Sciences and Mathematics
- Engineering (ESSTIN, ENSTIB, ESIAL)
- Technology (IUT)

The University of Nancy 1 has over 18,000 students and over 2,500 faculty, research, and administrative personnel. The University of Nancy 1 was founded in 1572.


The University of Nancy 2 is made up of the colleges of :

- Law
- Liberal Arts and Social Sciences
- Business
- European Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Media

The University of Nancy 2 has over 20,000 students and over 2,500 faculty, research, and administrative personnel.


The National Polytechnic Institute of Lorraine is made up of 7 Engineering colleges and the School of Architecture:

- EEIGM Ecole Europeenne d’Ingenieurs en Genie des Materiaux (the European School of Materials Sciences and Engineering)
- ENSAIA Ecole Naitonale Superieure d’Agronomie et des Industries Alimentaires (the National School of Agronomy and Food Sciences)
- ENSEM Ecole Nationale Superieure d’Electricite et de Mecanique (the National School of Electricity and Mechanics)
- ENSG Ecole Nationale Superieure de Geologie (the National School of Geology)
- ENSGSI Ecole Nationale Superieure en Genie des Systemes Industriels (the National School of Industrial Systems Engineering)
- ENSIC Ecole Nationale Superieure des Industries Chimiques (the National School of Chemical Industries)
- ENSMN Ecole Nationale Superieure des Mines de Nancy (the National School of Mines of Nancy)
- EAN School of Architecture of Nancy


The INPL has 26 research laboratories attached to it. The laboratories are grouped into the following 5 areas :

- Agronomy, Biotechnology, and Food Sciences
- Geosciences
- Information Systems, Automatics, Electronics, and Mathematics
- Metallurgy
- Mechanics and Energy, Processes, and Products
